Guitar & Bass

I have taught guitar and bass for over 25 years.

Studying music & creative art in the city of Bath and gaining a BA (honours) degree, I specialised in classical guitar (grade8) along with composition & performance.
I have also studied art history alongside creative writing and am inspired by jazz, folk, rock etc through classical and minimalism.

Complete beginners are welcome as well as those who play but wish to delve deeper into the wonders of music’s rich tapestry.
Improvisation is encouraged to those who dare.
By practicing scales, arpeggios and chord positioning students will gain a practical knowledge of their instrument whilst playing to a beat will improve a student’s timing.
For me, the three elements of music appreciation are rhythm, melody, harmony.
Practice makes perfect or at least one can try.

Also have a fine repertoire for classical guitar of which I am keen to teach and to share.

Joe Standell

Fretted Stringed Instruments & keys

I've played since the age of 9, achieved grade 8 on Guitar at 15 years old and have a Degree in Music.

I play professionally in a corporate and events band called Nightporters, as an agency musician, pit musician and have worked on numerous projects with local charities in the community.

I've played and studied music long enough that there shouldn't be an 8 year old child who is far better than I can ever hope to be.

And yet, Youtube and other social media reminds me that we aren't all created equal.

However, I can play well, and I do it professionally. I have a passion for showing others how to play, write, practice, perform and study music too.
